What a Beautiful Noise

I left my Midwife's office yesterday with one of those goofy grins you just can't wipe off your face...I walked to my car but it felt more like I floated there on a cloud...I was just so full of joy at having heard my precious little Baby's heartbeat for the 1st time...I started my car, switched on my iPod & what song comes on? What a Beautiful Noise by Neil Diamond (yes I have Neil Diamond on my iPod, don't mock!)

Needless to say, I had a fantastic appointment...I am feeling so good about choosing to go with a midwife...She had the results from last week's U/S & everything looks great! My blood work looked great...My placenta is growing in front which she said is fine but just means I may not feel Baby kicking & moving as soon as some due to the buffer & she also warned me that it may prevent us from hearing Baby on the doppler but my little one was front & centre showing off for Mommy with his/her strong heartbeat! She even showed me how to feel for my uterus which is kinda neat.

I'm debating about registering for Baby...my brother & sis-in-law asked if I was & before that I hadn't even considered it...sure it would be fun to do but I think it's be a little pointless...I mean, I don't have a lot of friends. I have a just a few very close friends & my family & that's it...I guess they'll want to give Baby a gift but whatever they choose, I would be grateful for & the necessities I'll get myself...so as fun as zapping all that stuff would be, it's seems sort of over indulgent to me...what does everyone else think?

  1. I didn't want to register. Still don't like it but my family does the registry thing big time. I have one at BRU and depositagift.com for the things that BRU doesn't have.

Congrats on baby's heartbeat! Such a sweet sound indeed.

  4. Tiara, this post made me get all teary eyed for you. Congratulations!!!

Oh, and I think you should definitely register. There are some people who are good at picking out baby gifts, and others who have no clue and will be thankful for a registry. You might be surprised at the people who want to buy you a baby present!

  5. What a wonderful moment! I hesistated to register too. I bought several of the big things myself and I budgeted for the rest. Somehow, someway, I got talked in to registering. It's fun and it's helpful for everyone involved. I registered for inexpensive items mostly. Trust me, it all adds up, though!

  6. I'm so glad that you had such a wonderful appt!

    Pros for registering:
-You get a little gift bag with samples and coupons
    - it forces you to make a decision about what you want might want to get
    - it's a handy check list of things you need/want
    - some places will give you a registry completion coupon for 10% off what is left on the registry after baby arrives

    Cons:
    It's exhausting!

  7. Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! :) I'm also sad that I'm not still pregnant, too, so we could share these milestones together...I guess I will just have to count on you for advice when my time comes! You'll be an old hand by then. ;)

REGISTER!!! As single women, we don't get the parties that other women get...engagement, bridal shower, bachelorette party, wedding, etc. A baby shower is the one party you can now count on, where you will be lavished with attention and showered with gifts. Indulge in it! Also, if you register at a general store (like Target), you can always exchange stuff you don't really want or like for more practical goods. Many places also give you gift cards just for registering. Start signing up on baby websites for e-letters, etc., and you will start getting all kinds of catalogs and magazines in the mail. I'm still getting them, even though I had a m/c. I'm glad to get them, though, as I'm learning about everything baby now, before the whirlwind starts. Many of the publications have checklists, too, of things you will need or want to register for.

  8. BTW, I think you can also set up alternative registries, where people can donate college funds in lieu of material gifts.

  9. I used MyRegistry.com because I was registering for things like cloth diapers and other items that weren't available in local stores. Noone bothered to order anything, and I ended up getting the things I wanted myself.

If you have friends or family who do alot of ordering online, it's an awesome tool, tho.

And it was fun to set up and shop.

  12. I like Mama Time Bomb's point about we single mom's not getting to have all the other parties. So, I say register! I figure, we're forking out a heck of a lot of money to do this on our own, and it can't hurt to allow people to do something nice for you.

  14. What a great post! I'm so happy you had such a great experience hearing your little one for the first time!!

I agree with the others, especially Mama Time Bomb & S... for all of the showers I've thrown over the years... all of the gifts bought for all of the traditional occasions (and some second sets of gifts, for second engagements/weddings/babies)... I wont hesitate to register when the time comes. Enjoy it!!!
